The building of exceptional eLearning programs begins with a simple question: What do I want my students to be able to do at the end of the course?
The most effective training is focused on the outcome, or the elearning objective of the training experience. And so, objectives-based elearning is the foundation of any instructional design because it centers around an action or an observable behavior.
By focusing on objectives you can streamline traditional training programs to get to the core knowledge that needs to be conveyed. Anything unrelated to the objectives should be cut—or objectives written for them.
And clear objectives give you a basis on which to evaluate your own effectiveness. When you teach an observable behavior, it’s easy to determine if the training works or not. Use assessments and exercises to have students demonstrate competence around the learning objective as part of your eLearning program.
